So the Republican Party has stepped through their first ring of fire on the road to hell, with the House voting along party lines to pass the tax cut for the rich and prosperous bill they’ve been threatening the world with forever. Republicans have been very busy with trying to pull off this heist on the American people and haven’t had time to worry about little things like aid for Puerto Rico. Well, the next stop on this runaway train is the Senate. Former Special Ass't to President Obama for Econ Policy., Seth Hanlon’s been reading through some of the Republican Senate’s proposal and found this tidbit.
That’s a little something you can find on the bottom of page 51.
The proposal exempts certain payments related to the management of private aircraft from the excise taxes imposed on taxable transportation by air. Exempt payments are those amounts paid by an aircraft owner for management services related to maintenance and support of the owner’s aircraft or flights on the owner’s aircraft. Applicable services include support activities related to the aircraft itself, such as its storage, maintenance, and fueling, and those related to its operation, such as the hiring and training of pilots and crew, as well as administrative services such as scheduling, flight planning, weather forecasting, obtaining insurance, and establishing and complying with safety standards. Aircraft management services also include such other services as are necessary to support flights operated by an aircraft owner.
The term “aircraft owner” includes a person who leases the aircraft other than under a disqualified lease. A disqualified lease means a lease from a person providing aircraft management services with respect to such aircraft (or a related person to the person provides such services) if such lease is for a term of 31 days or less. The exclusion applies on a pro rata basis to payments for which only a portion are attributable to aircraft management services.
This way taxpayers continue to pay for these billionaire’s private travel even after they have left their positions in office to go and sit on top of their piles of gold.
