For any region in this country, there’s a craigslist site. And on those sites, there are personals, and within those personals men gay, bisexual, straight, and otherwise look for other men gay, bisexual, straight, and otherwise for...well...you know. Sex. Companionship too, but mostly, those ads are for sex, even in the Strictly Platonic section.
And within those personals one unfamiliar with the lingo may see an acronym: BBC.
“I’m looking for my first BBC” one ad in Boise says. “I LOVE THUG BBC” another ad in southern Mississippi yells out. I can find ads like this on Craigslist in places as white as western Washington state and as diverse as Philadelphia, as urban as NYC and as rural as Wyoming, as integrated as parts of the west coast and as segregated as much of the Midwest. The men asking about, demanding, craving “BBC” are always white. This is true across almost all gay dating/hookup sites and apps, particularly the ones where black men congregate (like Adam4Adam and Jack’d).
Because I’m trying to keep this as safe for work as I possibly can, BBC is obviously not the British Broadcasting Corporation. BBC stands for Big Black...C---well you know.
These men fetishize black men because, they believe, perhaps stereo-typically, we have something large downstairs. It’s a fetish I’ve experienced pretty much my entire adult life (less so now, that I’m 36). Personally, I think it’s racist. I thought it so when I was 24 and still do now, and I will 20 years from now (if there even is a 20 years from now). I don’t judge most fetishes; I do judge this one. It’s racist. That’s why.
This isn’t about me however, this is about Gemmel Moore. He was a young black man who moved to West Hollywood, CA, where he encountered one of these white men. That white man fetishizes black men and their penises. That white man gives his hookups meth and other drugs. That white man is directly responsible for Gemmel Moore’s overdose and death. And that white man also has raised $250 million for Democratic candidates over the many years. That man’s name is Ed Buck.

On July 27, 2017, 26-year-old Gemmel Moore was found in the bathroom of a West Hollywood, Calif., apartment belonging to Ed Buck, 62. Moore was young, black and poor. Buck was white, wealthy and powerful.
That’s all we know.
Moore’s family is searching for answers. Buck has not spoken publicly about the incident. Police have not charged anyone with a crime, even though multiple reports have surfaced that Buck had a predilection for young, black men. Even after a number of young, black male sex workers have stepped forward with apparent photographic evidence that Buck was one of their clients. Even after each one of those men separately told the same story: Not only did Buck have a fetish for black men, but he was known in West Hollywood’s gay community as someone paying top dollar for the company of 20-something black escorts ...
But only after injecting them with drugs.

A growing mountain of evidence obtained by WEHO TIMES —including multiple eyewitness accounts, smartphone images, background interviews, on-the-record interviews, court documents, hospital bills and text messages—reveal a pattern that depicts a well heeled politico named Ed Buck as a man with a history of allegations that he pays young, good-looking African American men anywhere from $500-$3500 to inject, smoke and otherwise ingest potentially fatal doses of crystal methamphetamine and GHB during allegedly paid sexual encounters.
But the sex takes a back seat to Buck’s alleged primary fetish, according to several sources, who say his first interest is getting young, black men to take dangerously large doses of street drugs.
“My situation [with Ed Buck] was always, ‘how long do you want to see me for and we’ll come up with a number that we both can agree on,” said a 28-year-old, part-time sex worker who asked to be identified by the alias, “Damar Love” to protect his full-time job as a security guard.
Ed Buck has resigned from the Stonewall Democrats, an organization I also belong to. Good. I want more. I’m not asking for that $250 million to be returned. I want justice for Gemmel Moore.

Gemmel Moore was found dead of a crystal meth overdose Buck’s home on July 27. His death was immediately classified as an accidental methamphetamine overdose by the coroner, but now the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s homicide bureau is taking a closer look after his personal journal was published and other young men have stepped forward recounting similar stories about a man who they say has a Tuskegee Experiment like fetish which includes shooting drugs into young Black men that he picks up off the street or via dating hookup websites.

California law allows for the prosecution of people who supply the weapon that causes the drug death---in this case meth. When will the Los Angeles County District Attorney, or however the state Justice system works in California, file charges against Mr. Buck? I mean I know it sends, or used to send, dozens of (brown) people to death row a year so I know it isn’t soft, and its prison system is overfull. We all know Three-Strikes laws started in CA. I know CA can be hard on crime when it wants to be hard on crime (usually when brown people are involved). I want Ed Buck to be charged with the death of Gemmel Moore as he supplied the weapon that caused Moore’s death, to face a jury of his peers, and hopefully, after a trial, get convicted, and then sent to prison.
And I don’t want his political connections, extensive as they are, Democratic and progressive as they are, to cover his ass one fucking bit and neither should any of you. I want the door to be closed to him, permanently. Perhaps I’ll get my wish---from all appearances, Mr. Buck is a good fundraiser but is perhaps not very rich. He can’t buy his way out of this one, maybe.
I’ve encountered Buck’s type myself, when I was younger. I was savvy and sensed , well, evil, and kept away and warned others they should too. Not everyone is as savvy as I am. Until these predators are named and shamed---we are having a national name-it-and-shame-it moment and not a fucking moment too soon---more young gay and bi and questioning men are going to have their lives cut short.
And for what it’s worth, they ran Buck out of Arizona for “sexual inappropriateness.” I wonder what that was.
His victim’s name was Gemmel Moore. He deserves justice.

Great and powerfully spoken diary. As a criminal defense lawyer, I just want to make a minor correction to what you said about prosecution under California law. The law that you link to is for Civil Litigiation, not criminal, meaning that Gemmel’s people could and should sue the pants off this creep, but there is no direct analogue under CA criminal law.
Under California law, he could get up to three years for giving or administering the drug, plus another 8 months tacked on for each additional drug. A creative prosecutor could charge him with manslaughter (up to 11 yrs.), if he can meet the following elements:

The defendant intentionally committed an act that caused thedeath of another person;

The natural consequences of the act were dangerous to humanlife;
-
At the time (he/she) acted, (he/she) knew the act was dangerousto human life;
[AND]
4. (He/She) deliberately acted with conscious disregard for humanlife(;/.)
He could also be charged under federal law, which has a 20 yr. enhancement for providing drugs that result in death. In a federal case, to get the enhancement the prosecution would have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the drugs caused the death, not just contributed to another health condition that resulted in death.
