The Planes of Fame Air Museum is located at the Chino, California, airport. The museum was founded in 1957 by Edward T. Maloney with just 10 airplanes. Today the museum has over 150 aircraft, of which more than 50 are flyable. The Mission of Planes of Fame Air Museum is to preserve aviation history, inspire interest in aviation, educate the public, and honor aviation pioneers and veterans. Shown below are some of the Soviet aircraft on display in the museum.
Yakolev YAK-3U
This World War II aircraft had a top speed of 407 mph and a range of 560 miles. This particularly plane was restored to the WWII markings of the French-Nieman Volunteer Squadron which fought on the Eastern Front against the Germans in the Soviet Airforce.
YAK-18
This is a basic trainer which has been used throughout the world.
MiG-15bis
Designed by the Mikoyan-Guerevich Design Bureau, the Mig-15 is among the most widely used fighters in aviation history. According to the Museum display;
“When the MiG-15 first appeared over North Korea in November 1950, it sent shock waves all over the world. The swept-wing aircraft era had arrived. Aviation would never be the same.”
MiG-17
The MiG-17 has a top speed of 710 mph and a cruising range of 1,400 miles.
Mig-21R (Fishbed H)
This is a recon fighter. It has a maximum speed of 1,386 mph with a range of 684 miles.
