Protesters swamped Capitol Hill Tuesday in anticipation of the Senate Budget Committee vote on the GOP tax bill that is purely aimed at cutting taxes for large corporations and mega-wealthy Americans at the expense of both middle-class taxpayers and basically every marginalized community in the nation. Republicans managed to make their craven attempt at appeasing their rich donor base even worse by adding a healthcare repeal provision that will strip 13 million people of their health care.
It can’t be said much better than this protester said it as she was removed from the Budget Committee hearing.
“Ask our government stop attacking us,” she declared. “Stop attacking my patients. Stop attacking Americans that make ordinary incomes that you're going to devastate with this sham of a bill.” As she was removed, Capitol Police began forcibly removing other protesters in wheel chairs.
One protester stood up and declared, “I am living with AIDS and cancer. If this bill is passed, people like me will die. I’m asking Republican senators to vote against this bill. Don’t kill us, kill the bill!”
Naturally, the GOP-led Budget Committee passed it anyway, but the bill's fate in the Senate still remains unclear. And beyond killing health care for millions, a majority of Americans already oppose the Republican tax bill and the coverage has just gotten started.
Jam your senators' phone lines at (202) 224-3121. Tell them to vote "no" on the Republican tax bill.
