Donald Trump campaigned on kicking as many immigrants out as possible. Donald Trump is also a hypocrite. The Trump Organization is seeking to up the number of foreign workers brought in to staff his Florida resort, despite promising a “buy American and hire American” platform:
President Trump recently won permission from the Labor Department to hire 70 cooks, maids and servers to work at his ritzy Mar-a-Lago Club for the tourist season, according to the Palm Beach Post. That’s six more than Trump hired last tourist season. He’s contributing to an influx of 2,159 immigrant workers snapping up the temporary jobs in Palm Beach County.
The New York Times noted last year that Trump has “pursued more than 500 visas for foreign workers at Mar-a-Lago since 2010,” with Trump claiming that “it’s very, very hard to get people” locally. One local non-profit job placement agency noted that maybe he’s just not looking hard enough:
"We currently have 5,136 qualified candidates in Palm Beach County for various hospitality positions listed in the Employ Florida state jobs database," CareerSource spokesman Tom Veenstra said Friday.
According to the Palm Beach Post, “in addition to the 70 visas at Mar-a-Lago, Trump also won permission to hire foreign workers at other properties that bear his name. He landed visas for 10 waiters and waitresses and six cooks at Trump National Golf Club in Jupiter, plus eight waiters and waitresses at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.”
Don’t forget that abusing positions of power for personal financial gain is also a trait that runs in the family. In March, Eric Trump asked his dad’s government for permission to hire dozens of foreign workers for his Virginia winery.
