I can’t say this enough: Trump is a pig.
It’s not just that he refused to send out any acknowledgement on the 5-year anniversary of the Sandy Hook slaughter. (He really didn’t).
It’s not just the fact that his press secretary, Huckabee Sanders, had the gall to say there was absolutely nothing that could have been done to prevent the tragedy. (She really did.)
It’s the fact that Trump deliberately hosted Wayne LaPierre at the White House on the very night of the anniversary. LaPierre is the head of the NRA, and the one directly responsible for ensuring that no gun laws got passed in the wake of the massacre. After the killing, LaPierre was condemned by both Republican and Democratic leaders for his “revolting, tone deaf” statement. Further, he refuses to condemn the Sandy Hook conspiracy theories and, in fact, actively encourages them.
Nicole Hockley, whose five-year old Dylan was killed, had this to say:
But while I can forgive Sanders for her lack of knowledge (though not her lack of compassion) I cannot say the same for President Trump.
Not only did he ignore the 5-year remembrance complete - not even a tweet - he slapped us all in the face by having none other than President Wayne LaPierre at this White House Christmas party that night.
The appalling lack of humanity and decency has not gone unnoticed.
While they ignorantly partied and remained uninformed on an issue that kills thousands of Americans every year, I was crying myself to sleep. While they got the chance to kiss their children goodnight, I kissed the urn holding my beautiful boy's ashes.
I would request an apology. But I'm not sure there are any hearts in the White House that would understand why an apology is the least they could do.
One reason Donald Trump is deliberately spitting the faces of the Sandy Hook parents is because he is a conspiracy nut who believes the whole thing was a hoax. Trump is a huge fan of the chief Sandy Hook conspiracist, Alex Jones—whom he told: “Your reputation is amazing. I will not let you down.” Trump also completely dismissed Erica Lafferty’s open letter asking him to cut ties with the Sandy Hook deniers. I lamented last year, when he also refused to acknowledge the anniversary, on why no one ever has ever called Trump out on this.
Donald Trump will never acknowledge the Sandy Hook victims, and will continue to look for ways to spite them while in office. He won't ever change.
He is a monster. For this reason alone, no one should ever work with him on anything. I know I don’t say anything that isn't already well known, but for his defenders I will keep repeating it until he is finally brought down out of office.
