For those of us who actually went to sleep last night, I imagine we all had much the same morning:
Wake up … grab phone/turn on TV … check news via method of choice …
WHAT THE BLOODY F-CK DID THOSE @#$%ING REPUBLICAN SENATORS *DO*???!
Grab the fortified beverage of your choice, and step past the Story Break to join the rest of us pondering many thoughts and feels tonight. Please note the word from our sponsor and help us out with your comment submissions!
Here at Top Comments we welcome longtime as well as brand new Daily Kos readers to join us at 10pm Eastern. We strive to nourish community by rounding up some of the site's best, funniest, most mojo'd & most informative commentary, and we depend on your help!! If you see a comment by another Kossack that deserves wider recognition, please send it either to topcomments at gmail or to the Top Comments group mailbox by 9:30pm Eastern. Please please please include a few words about why you sent it in as well as your user name (even if you think we know it already :-)), so we can credit you with the find!
I admit to being at a total loss to understand how an individual, much less an *entire political party*, seems so callously able to throw entire classes of people under the bus. What I do know is that back in September, when we were exhorted to laud Senators McCain, Collins and Paul for being “reasonable”, I demurred. Not because I disapproved of their actions, but because broken clocks are still correct twice a day. I was right… they’re broken, as their Yes votes last night demonstrated (or was that early this morning? Telling time in the middle of a college all-nighter was always difficult).
That’s why the fortune cookie I ended my meal with was so appropriate- words mean nothing, at the end of it all. Actions do. This is why we need to read and write here to share information and get energized… then get out there and DO things that help ourselves, our families, our towns, our states, our nations and our world.
I spent today shopping for Christmas presents for a 15-year old girl in the local foster care system who otherwise will have nothing to open on December 25th. Another friend was cleaning out their family’s outgrown and unworn clothing, so that others in need will have warm items this winter. Last Thursday this friend and I went to a workshop on becoming Active Bystanders — people better equipped to react appropriately to diffuse and deescalate tensions when instances of bullying and harassment occur. Remember the Safety Pins, criticized because “wearing a pin doesn’t mean you’ll act if needed”? We went to gain confidence in our ability to act in a helpful and nonviolent fashion.
I know that you also are acting to help in the various spheres of your life. Please peruse the Top Comments, Mojo and Pictures, then feel free to share in the comments, because reminding ourselves that we are NOT powerless to effect change is an important part of #Persisting in the #Resistance of the evils the Republican Party is trying to force upon us.

Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down. Please remember that comment inclusion in Top Comments does not constitute support or endorsement by diarist, formatter, Top Comments writers or DailyKos. Questions, complaints or comments? From BeninSC:
This comment, from first-time Daily Kos commenter, Rubycrownedkinglet, provides some useful information for making a difference in the aftermath of their latest catastrophe, in TrueBlueMajority’s excellent diary on Civics and next steps.
Highlighted by first-time Daily Kos commenter, USCANative:
Is a comment that is longer out of recommendability than any comment I can recall putting in the list in Top Comments, this rant comment by BlackSheep1, that really lets it out! (You can’t rec the comment, but you can let BlackSheep1 know what you think!)
From yours truly, brillig:
While reading the comments of Joan McCarter’s Senate Republicans pass massive, radical social engineering project they call a tax bill , I learned a new word thanks to PadreMellyrn — kakistocracy.
