Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was deeply interested in politics. She watched the 1980 campaign for President with her family and debated the issues with them.
Near election day, she and her parents were at her grandparents’ house, and everyone was talking about who they were going to vote for. She spoke, at age seven, and said she was going to vote for John B. Anderson. Her mom said, “But you can’t vote!” She replied, “But Mom, women can vote now!”
Well, I didn’t get my mom to let me vote for him, despite arguing with her for an hour. And now, the first person I wanted to vote for in a Presidential election is dead.
RIP, John Anderson. I never got the chance to meet you, but I will remember you.
