It’s getting worse.
Before Trump decided to enflame the Middle East, just this past week he tweeted violent, fake, racist videos and said the Access Hollywood tape was faked.
Yale psychiatrist Dr. Bandy Lee:
What we're seeing is someone mentally falling apart. This is what we mean when someone is coming unglued or unhinged. With stress, they will be less able to tell apart what is real from what is unreal, become more bizarre and, in the case of Mr. Trump, will likely become violent. He will have thoughts and reasoning that will be hard for us to follow because he is pulled more by his internal processes, what's going on in his head, be they fantasies, conspiracy theories or imaginary threats than what is going on in the real world.
This is our reality:
At no other time in U.S. history has a group of mental health professionals been so collectively concerned about a sitting president.
If a regular person was acting as delusional as this president---making repeated calls for violence, denying reality, saying he never said or did things we all saw him do---we’d be compelled to take action. Dr. Lee specializes in violent behavior. She spoke out:
When there’s a sign of danger, it’s an emergency. So, what we do is we contain the person, remove them from access to weapons and do an urgent evaluation.
But this is the president we are talking about.
Thing of it is—Republicans KNOW he is mentally deteriorating. They know he is not well.
His own cabinet says they actively ignore him—even faking bad reception to get him off the phones. The Secretary of Defense and Chief of Staff have said they would literally tackle the man with the nuclear football. White House aides are “terrified” about the President’s mental health. For the first time in half a century, a Senate panel was convened on what would happen if a nutty president orders a nuclear strike. Some Pentagon leaders said they would ignore the president, but in reality, if Trump wants to start a nuclear war---NOTHING CAN STOP HIM.
We could be facing nuclear Armageddon---but this Congress, under the GOP, made it clear they won’t do anything until tax cuts for their base are passed.
No matter what Trump says… no matter what he does. Anything--ANYTHING-- to get those wealthy tax breaks done. I’ll bet they’d even support a child rapist if they had to. (Oh, wait.)
It’s par for the course these days to call opponents of your ideology “crazy” or “insane”, but it’s generally understood that these are just insults. Sarah Palin was ignorant, incompetent, and intellectually lazy, but not insane. Anyone who’s bothered to watch Trump through the 80s, 90s, 2000s, and today can notice a YUGE difference in his intelligence and mental faculties. He is more paranoid, more delusional, and sees conspiracies everywhere He is more and more feeling “walled in", and he is clearly slipping.
Reassurances from his handlers are not encouraging—they can’t even get him to stop his early morning tweets.
When his treasonous collaboration with Putin is exposed for all to see, Trump will be a cornered, rabid animal who, in a hideous attempt at a destructive distraction, will lash out with all the deranged violence you have been groomed to expect.
Trump thought nothing of sending soldiers to die at Yakla and Niger with no preparations in an attempt to boost his ego—what do you think a violent man who is growing more erratic will do when his false reality that he lives in is truly threatened?
Not just the Mueller investigation. Fast forward to his next election-assuming we make it that far. What do you suppose he will do if he loses? I mean REALLY loses? He said he would refuse to accept defeat back in 2016—but he was a joke back then with no power to hurt anyone. Does anyone think he’ll truly respect the lawful transition of power? What do you think he’ll do?
Most people don't accept the precarious position we are in because we have always had someone in control, even if we didn’t like them. I hated George W Bush but I never thought he’d start a nuclear war if things didn’t go his way.
We don’t have a mentally fit person in office now, and our government is not set up to help us in this situation--even less so because the party in control has completely abandoned their responsibility to protect us just to get a payday to their donors.
It falls to us. We have to work hard to elect responsible people who will put sorely needed checks on Trump’s power. We have to put procedures in place in case we ever again have a leader who can’t control himself. We need to fight like our lives depend on it. In this case, they actually might.
