A candidate introduces himself to us today and he seems like a nice guy. He’s here to save the Democratic Party and is running as a Blue Dog Democrat and advocates for MORE Blue Dogs, not less.
Here’s the thing though, I’m not sure he’s a Democrat, I think he’s a Republican. Or at least he used to be one. From his Facebook page
Sadly, this is an accurate portrayal of much of the leadership in the Republican Party, and why I left them behind.
I’m wondering if he has left them far enough behind? His website seems to have changed in the last few weeks and his positions reworded. From the first version:
I'm fervently and unashamedly pro-life. If it were up to me, I'd advocate for the addition of a plank to the Democratic party platform that we eliminate abortion in the Commonwealth of Virginia as soon as possible.
A screen shot of the original:
In this plan to eliminate abortions, nowhere is birth control mentioned. Foster care and adoption are. A woman’s right to have control over her body is not mentioned. It says ”Eliminate doesn’t simply mean illegalizing”.
His position on guns from his website a few weeks ago:
My idea of gun control is pretty simple- you control your gun, I'll control mine. Gun control- right? But, seriously, I'm an unabashed supporter of the Second Amendment. Like it or not, we have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, which the government must ensure.

The new version of this page on his website isn’t much better. He seems to have the 1st and 2nd amendments confused and I’m not sure he’s read or understood the part about a well regulated militia.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
My biggest problem was probably his stance on voter ID. I didn’t even read the new page on his site past the first sentence which is the same as the screen shot from his original site below. That sentence was all I needed to read:
I have no problem with requiring voter ID
I have a HUGE problem with any candidate who has no problem with requiring voter ID.

Like, I said in the beginning, this guy seems like a nice guy. He’s an ER nurse, has lots of pictures of his kids on his website. I just think he might be better off running as a Republican, the good old fashioned kind of Republican, conservative and sane.
But a Democrat, even a Blue Dog Dem? Doesn’t seem like one to me.
