Donald Trump and his never-ending fundraising machine are using his first-ever State of the Union address to fundraise for a campaign that should be years away. Instead, Team Grift is getting an early start, having filed for 2020 re-election on the same day he was inaugurated (41 impossibly long days ago.)
Of course, this also means that we cannot confirm his Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch. This was a rule invented by Mitch McConnell roughly one year ago:
“And we all know what Vice President Biden said when he chaired the Judiciary Committee. ‘It would be our pragmatic conclusion that once the political season is under way, and it is, action on a Supreme Court nomination must be put off until after the election campaign is over.’
Mr. Gorsuch, please take a seat next to Mr. Garland. It’s going to be a while before the Senate can see you.
