Being held accountable by mobs of angry voters is getting the GOP’s attention. Protests always died off before, but this? This is different.
Then President Trump gives a speech. A surprisingly empathic and rational speech.
This is somewhat out of character.
Fools that believe the Great Liar and hustlers with their own agenda lend support — and the con is on.
I’m sure I’m not the only one to see through the scam; it's pretty obviously meant to give pundits and Trump supporters some ground to stand on — and calm down protests by showing a “Presidential” Trump.
They've seriously underestimated their opposition, I think.
It's also obvious Trump didn't have much speechwriting input — he’s a Hemingway guy, using short, punchy sentences and a limited vocabulary with lots of repetition. Very effective. Impressed. Big League.
He didn't stray from the teleprompter and he gave the speech in Congress, where the GOP brass could keep pressure on him to stay on topic.
He resented it. You could hear it in his voice.
When it came down to it, it wasn’t the Donald that was in charge. They wrote him a script, set up the venue and made a forced performance.
McConnell & Company hold the balls in DC. But then, maybe Trump is an even better con man than the con men.
What do you think?
