This past week a class action lawsuit was filed in San Francisco’s Superior Court by Modern Appealing Clothing—a boutique clothing store in the Bay Area of California.
1. This is an action for unfair competition by a San Francisco clothing and accessories business in California that directly competes with defendant IVANKA TRUMP MARKS, LLC, in the sale of women’s clothing and accessories. Plaintiff seeks a court order forbidding defendant IVANKA TRUMP MARKS, LLC, and DOES 1 through 50 from continuing to compete unfairly with plaintiff in the woman’s clothing and accessories business in California.
What could the daughter of a seemingly corrupt business man turned president of the United States of America have in the way of an “unfair” advantage in the marketplace?
The lawsuit claims Ivanka Trump's brand got a boost from Donald Trump's tweets blasting Nordstrom for dropping her line, and from Kellyanne Conway telling people to "go buy Ivanka's stuff" during an interview with Fox News.
Modern Appealing Clothing is a longtime San Francisco brand with stores in Hayes Valley and the Dogpatch. The Chronicle described the stores as "San Francisco's fashion wonderland" and the brand is "beloved not just in San Francisco, but worldwide." MAC has been in San Francisco since 1980.
While the lawsuit doesn’t specify the damages it seeks, I think we can all agree it would be great if the Trumps just left all of us alone.
