Republican State Treasurer Ron Estes new ad looks to latch onto the zeitgeist and energy that surrounds President Donald Trump — or at least that is what he is hoping to capture in his latest ad put forward on Facebook and local network TV.
Estes, who served as treasurer for Kansas during a period where Governor Sam Brownback has driven the state into near default, uses this ad to make several statements not just about his opponent, but about problems he sees with America: “After 8 years with Obama our country is weaker and the swamp is deeper.."
This ad may seem familiar; you see, it steals not just ideas but seemingly shots of footage from another candidate, Bob Gray, a Republican running in Georgia 6th.
Gray’s ad, which appears below:
And Estes Ad:
One thing for certain, both Estes and Gray pitch a very similar story, with very similar images. There are a few key differences, though; Bob Gray is seen hauling around a power generator and starting it while Estes is just seen up to his waist in a swamp somewhere.
Estes asserts that Kansas isn’t prepared to elect a “Bernie Sanders supporting attorney” and that “liberal groups are out to get him”.
He does this while, like Kansas, he gets soaked by the bad idea of some ad director. Kansans, on the other hand, get soaked by his boss and friend the governor.
Estes, who’s committed to vote the way the Kochs or Trump tell him to, warns the district they can’t take a chance on a Democrat taking the seat. Why? Over what specific issues? Estes refuses to say.
But, you know, swamps. And the solution to the swamp? Let a guy who’s been a part of the Topeka swamp join a much bigger one in DC.
