This should be quick, but it’s too delicious to not let you in on. It’s been a confusing couple of days regarding the story of Juan Manuel Montes, the first confirmed DACA recipient still covered to be deported by Trump’s new brownshirts. On February 17th, waiting for a ride, he was picked up by Custom and Border Patrol in Calexico CA. He had left his wallet in a friends car, so he didn’t have ID, and CBP refused to let him get his wallet, and he was deported to Mexico 3 hours later. CBP initially claimed that his DACA status had expired a year earlier. Now they admit that his status is still protected, now they claim that he invalidated his protection by leaving the country, something he denies.
Now,for the karma. Several lawsuits have already been filed over this case, and one of them already has a home. And guess where it came home to roost? The case will be heard by the Honorable Judge Gonzalo Curiel. If he sounds familiar, he should, he’s the US born Federal Judge from Indiana who then candidate Trump railed against as being unable to treat Trump fairly because Judge Curiel is Mexican, and Trump wants to build a wall.
I guess we’re gonna find out a couple of things pretty damn quick. First, we’re gonna discover whether or not Trump has learned to keep his big, fat gob shut or not. And second, we’re gonna find out if US District Court judges has memories as short as those of football quarterbacks and hockey goaltenders. Popcorn alert!
