Tomorrow is Earth Day. Since peace activist John McConnell proposed a day to honor the Earth and the concept of peace at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco in 1960, Earth Day has evolved into a week of environmental activities held around the world. Tomorrow begins Earth Week and millions are rising to defend this planet we call home.
Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on the environmental issues that the world faces. In 2017, the March for Science occurs on Earth day (April 22, 2017) and is followed by the People's Climate Mobilization (April 29, 2017).
During this year’s Earth Week, millions of people will be marching. Foot steps will echo down the high rise canyons of New York City and small town Main Streets. From London to Findlay, Ohio to Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil to Accra, Ghana to Prince Albert, SK, Canada to Christchurch, New Zealand to Dhaka, Bangladesh to Washington, DC — millions are raising their voices to protect our beautiful blue green world.
Numerous fellow members of Daily Kos will be among them. We’re doing a blogathon in support of our fellow Kossacks and people around the Earth who will be marching in support of Science, Climate, Jobs, and Justice. Won’t you join us?
This year’s Earth Day will see marches for science take place around the globe. The March for Science in Washington, DC — the epicenter of the Trump Administration’s climate denial and war on science — will have events beginning tomorrow at eight am.
Start: Washington D.C., North of Washington Monument, Constitution Avenue NW between 15th and 17th street.
8:00am: Grounds open.
9:00am: Teach-ins start.
10:00am: Main stage rally program begins.
2:00pm: March begins!

We Resist
We Build
We Rise
The operative word is “we.” Young and old. Parents and children. People from all backgrounds. Together, there is nothing we can not face. Together, each of us doing what we can, we are stronger. Together, we can build a brighter future for generations to come.
That is why we are doing this blogathon in support of a movement that is rising to resist what would destroy our home. Thank you for helping us help them.

Together —
We Resist
We Build
We Rise
"Rise Up"
You're broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry-go-round
And you can't find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains
And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you [4x]
When the silence isn't quiet
And it feels like it's getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we'll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
Bring it to its feet
And move mountains
And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you [4x]
All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We'll rise, oh oh
We'll rise
I'll rise up
Rise like the day
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousand times again
And we'll rise up
High like the waves
We'll rise up
In spite of the ache
We'll rise up
And we'll do it a thousand times again
For you oh oh oh oh oh [3x]
For you — for our loved ones, for the trees, mountains, plains, and waters, for the rain forests and deserts, for the savannas and tundra, for the generations to come, for all that dwell on this blue green world — we rise.
On a personal note, I would like to add that it has been impossible to be a part of this blogathon without thinking of our own Patriot Daily News Clearinghouse. Linda was a fierce warrior for this beautiful world. Along with being an environmental attorney, she organized many a blogathon on behalf of the Earth and all its people. Her love for this planet we call home ran deeply. I can feel her cheering on every marcher, every organizer, this blogathon effort, and every person who rises up to embrace and protect this Earth. Miss you, Spirit Sister. This one is for you.
