Strange things are happening all over Donald Trump’s America, but I have to admit, I never thought we’d see this come to pass: Republicans are fretting over Tuesday’s special election for Kansas’s 4th Congressional District, a dark red seat encompassing Wichita that they should never have had to worry about. But here they are.
On Thursday, Politico reported that the NRCC was parachuting in with a last-minute ad buy of almost $100,000—which goes a long way in a cheap state like Kansas—to attack Democrat James Thompson, a civil rights attorney and Army veteran, and prop up the Republican candidate, state Treasurer Ron Estes.
Why? Reporter Elena Schneider explains that local Republicans "are fretting that Estes' margin is closer than expected." Wow! One unnamed GOP consultant even says, "Kansas should not be in play, but Kansas is in play."
That’s exactly right. Donald Trump won this seat by a huge 60-33 margin, so Republicans shouldn’t have any cause for concern, but here they are. The GOP’s been flipping out about Democrat Jon Ossoff in the Georgia special election, and it seems like their paranoia is spreading.
Let’s help it spread further. Though the election is just a few days away, we can still help Thompson expand his field program and media buys. An upset here would be beyond stunning, but if we have even a shadow of a chance to help make one happen, we have to take it.
So please give $3 to James Thompson immediately—there’s not a second to spare!
