In the wake of this morning’s tragic baseball diamond shooting incident in Virginia, the GOP wingnut legislators and their supporters wasted no time whatsoever getting onto their favorite medium, the radio, advocating more gun violence. One listener said that Governor Jerry Brown should be “hung by the neck." Brown’s crime? According to the Evangelical, he worships The Green Ghoul, which is what the lunatic fringe of the GOP call climate change.
Unfortunately for America, the lunatic fringe of the GOP is now indecipherable from the rest of the GOP. They’re not the fringe anymore, nor have they been for some time. They are the GOP mainstream. New York Representative Chris Collins led the fray against sanity and the Democratic party this morning. The Buffalo News reported that he “criticized Democrats and only Democrats:”
"I can only hope that the Democrats do tone down the rhetoric," Collins said on the right-leaning radio station. "The rhetoric has been outrageous – the finger-pointing, just the tone and the angst and the anger directed at Donald Trump, his supporters. Really, then, you know, some people react to things like that. They get angry as well. And then you fuel the fires."
Later, on WKBW, he vowed to start carrying his handgun at public events.
"On a rare occasion, I'd have my gun in the glove box or something, but it's going to be in my pocket from this day forward," Collins said.
Then wingnut talkshow host Dave Daubenmire was interviewing a guest, who advocated the assassination of Jerry Brown, and he actually said “Amen,” if you can believe it.
Then fellow Evangelical Robert Jeffress, author of the “The Perfect Ending,” a book about the End Times predicted by the Bible and in which we are purportedly living, kicked in his two cents and it’s as superficial and insane as you would expect. Jeffress’ books opines, among other things, that Barack Obama and LGBT rights presage the Apocalypse, an issue with which these people are obsessed:
Megachurch pastor Robert Jeffress, who said he’d vote for “strongman” Donald Trump over Jesus, blamed the shootings of GOP whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Rep. Roger Williams (R-TX) on three of conservatives’ most hated enemies.
“This appalling act of violence highlights the fact that the unrelenting demonization of our legitimately elected political leaders could lead to tragedy, and I refer particularly to the mainstream media, our universities and to Hollywood,” Jeffress said. “Now is the time to tone it all down, embrace real tolerance, report objectively, and stop provoking our nation to conflict.”
The Republican party went through a metamorphosis in the 2016 election, not dissimilar to the metamorphosis that the Worker’s Party in Nazi Germany went through in the late ‘30’s when it became the Nazi party. The GOP always had splinter groups, notably the Nazis, KKK, and the pseudo-Christian wingnuts, the Evangelicals. In 2016 with the rise of Donald Trump, the inmates of the GOP took over the asylum. The GOP is now ruled by its moneyed base, as usual, and the rank and file Republicans are dominated by once-splinter groups, now mainstream.
These people are dangerous because they are not right-minded. They are a product of the dumbing down of America produced by the steady erosion of the educational system. Additionally, they are fearful and fired up by shifts in the economy which they cannot control and they can scarcely understood, the coal v. natural gas or green alternatives debate being a key factor. Throw into that mix the toxic emotional blend of abortion, gays, Muslims, anything at all that they can identify as a threat or different in any way, and the pot is boiling over.
They are trained by their media and their culture to distrust the Evil Libruls, whom they blame for this morning’s tragedy in Virginia and for all things bad in general. They are poisoned by the radio, a pervasive medium which they dominate, and by Breitbart and Fox News. They cannot be convinced that they are being played by Donald Trump and his cabal of billionaires who seek only to use them as cannon fodder for their own nefarious purposes and to fatten their coffers even further.
These people are insane and they are being driven progressively more so by their elected politicians, like Rep. Collins of New York and by their pastors, all of whom drive the narrative of impending doom and apocalypse.
This morning’s event in Virginia was indeed tragic but they were the act of one person and the politicizing of this event to proselytize against their favorite evils, a free press, intellectual freedom and truth, and free artistic expression, all of which they decry and hate, is insipid and naive on the one hand and purely and deliberately evil on the other.

The Washington Post reported:
“America has been divided,” said Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa), who, in suit and tie, stopped by the crime scene to pray and was viscerally angry about his colleagues being attacked. “And the center of America is disappearing, and the violence is appearing in the streets, and it’s coming from the left.”
And Newt Gingrich shot off his mouth on Fox News as well. Here’s that quote:
“The intensity on the left is very real,” Gingrich said. “Whether it’s a so-called comedian holding up the president’s head in blood, or it’s right here, in New York City, a play that shows the president being assassinated. Or it’s Democratic leading national politicians who are so angry they have to use vulgarity because they can’t find any common language.”
Fellow kossack CorpFlunky said in the comments thread here, “It’s going to be a long, hot, crazy and dangerous summer.” With the GOP acting like rabid dogs, when all standards of decorum indicate to do otherwise; I guess so.
