“And for what? For a little bit of money. There’s more to life than a little money, you know. Don’t you know that?”
Republicans don’t. Mitch McConnell, who has now surpassed Dick Cheney as the most profoundly evil man person creature ever to hold national public office in the United States, certainly doesn’t know that.
It’s become a familiar refrain: The Republican “health care” bill strips health care and consumer protections away from millions of Americans in order to finance massive tax cuts for billionaires and health-care corporations. They’re taking health care away from people who need it, to give tax cuts to people who don’t. Millions will lose coverage, tens if not hundreds of thousands will die.
And for what? For a little bit of money.
Charles Koch, Shelly Adelson, the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, and whoever else owns the GOP now, have hired Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Donald Trump, the rest of the Republicans in the House and Senate, and in the states, to kill people for money. To let tens if not hundreds of thousands of Americans die needlessly so they can save a few dollars (relative to their overall income and wealth) in taxes. To inflict unimaginable suffering on parents, kids, seniors, the disabled, the poor, people just trying to get by.
And for what? For a little bit of money.
It’s been clear for a long time that the difference between Democrats and Republicans, between liberals and conservatives, is that the former care about people more than money, and the latter care more about money more than people. The first complaint Democrats always have about Republican policy is that it’s too cruel; the first complaint Republicans always have about Democratic policy is that it’s too costly. Republicans always accuse Democrats of ignoring the financial costs of this or that, Democrats accuse Republicans of ignoring the human costs of this or that. They’re certainly doing that now.
And for what? For a little bit of money.
And don’t think Republicans will pay for this. Those of us who know what they’re up to and why, were never going to vote for them anyway. Their own base will thank them for screwing over the people they hate, even as they themselves are screwed. And if everyone else was capable of understanding it, well, we would have der Drumpfenführer. Democrats paid a price for bringing health care to millions and protecting them from the predations of the industry; Republicans will pay no price for taking all that away.
And for what? For a little bit of money.
Republicans are killing people for money. They’ve decided that it’s worth it to kill people for money. Their top legislative priority has been to kill people for money. And their owners/paymasters have hired them to kill people for money. They’re mercenaries. Hit men. Assassins. Hired guns. They’ve put forth the single cruelest piece of legislation in memory, murder for hire about to be codified into law. Millions will suffer. Many will die.
And for what? For a little bit of money.
