Senate Republicans are determined to jam through an Obamacare repeal bill, no matter what it takes, and Democrats don’t have much power to stop them. So Senate Democrats are looking for whatever leverage they can get to make the votes as painful for Republicans as they can. One way they’re doing that, Dave Weigel reports, is by teaming up with protesters:
Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.) saw a crowd of a hundred-odd protesters that had gathered across the plaza. They started out to meet them — and were stopped by Vice President Pence’s motorcade, rolling out.
“Get the sergeant of arms out here,” Schumer said to a staffer. “The vice president’s gone. We want them to come up here.” [...]
After 15 minutes, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) led Democrats back to the steps. They spoke through a bullhorn, urging activists to keep pressure on their Republican colleagues.
“How about we fill the streets outside every Republican office in America?” asked Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.).
How about we do that?
Make your Republican senator feel the heat. Call their office EVERY DAY at (202) 224-3121 to demand that they say NO to repealing Obamacare and ripping health care away from millions of Americans. (After you call, please tell us how it went.)
