Let’s take a little trip in the time machine, all the way back to April. Donald Trump had drawn months of protest, and Republican state legislatures were getting a little fed up. What could they do about all these protests, they wondered. As it turned out, they had a lot of ideas:
… lawmakers in at least 18 states have proposed legislation that would make it harder to protest, create harsher penalties for protestors who are arrested, and, in two states, remove liability from drivers who accidentally injure protesters on roadways.
Those protests that had legislators so worked up, by the way, were not protests by torch-bearing white supremacists. The protesters who Republicans wanted to make it legal to “accidentally” run over with cars are the very same type who a white supremacist intentionally ran over with his car on Saturday.
Meanwhile, it took Donald Trump three days to say that violent torch-bearing white supremacists were bad.
