After Donald Trump was finally forced into condemning neo-Nazi and white supremacist hate groups on Monday, Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on him to weed out the ranks of "white supremacist sympathizers" like chief strategist Steve Bannon within his White House.
“The President’s statement on Saturday was a direct reflection of the fact that his chief strategist, Steve Bannon, is an alt-right white supremacist sympathizer and a shameless enforcer of those un-American beliefs. In his long overdue statement today, President Trump called white supremacists ‘repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans.’ If the President is sincere about rejecting white supremacists, he should remove all doubt by firing Steve Bannon and the other alt-right white supremacist sympathizers in the White House.”
Bannon—absolutely, but don't stop there. How about Lady Liberty detractor and hate group booster Stephen Miller? Or neo-Nazi sympathizer Sebastian Gorka?
Trump’s entire administration is filled with well-placed promoters of racism and bigotry, Bannon is just the tip of the iceberg. Trump needs to clean house, though he never will.
There’s a reason someone initially declines to condemn racist hate groups then waits a full 48 hours to do so.
There’s a reason someone builds their entire political career on the racist foundation of birtherism.
There’s a reason someone is obsessed with tearing down the legacy of the president who preceded him—America’s first black president.
Bannon, Miller, and Gorka—they’ll all continue serving at the pleasure of Trump. Ultimately, they’re in lockstep with him.
