So Donald Trump defends neo-Nazis and white supremacists and what does House Speaker Paul Ryan have to say about it?
There are a couple words missing there, Paul. Like “Donald Trump.” You’re responding to Donald Trump, no? You’re trying to distance yourself from things Donald Trump said, right? Why not name him?
(Easy answer: That’s too difficult for Ryan. He might pay a political price with Trump’s base for doing so, and the fact that the last few days have clearly identified white supremacists as the core of Trump’s base doesn’t change that calculus for him.)
”We” must be clear, Paul? Who’s not being clear? Who’s leaving moral ambiguity? Name some damn names, Paul.
Until Republicans like Paul Ryan do something more than frown and issue disappointed and sorrowful statements with no teeth, until they actually distance themselves from Trump in substance and action, they still own him and everything he said.
