Facts are pesky things: eventually they come out and bite liars in the behind.
A few of the chief executives have quit President Trump’s Manufacturing Council in disgust, but most are holding on. In so doing they are casting their lots with, and providing aid and comfort to the new-Nazis and their enabler in chief, Donald Trump.
You might think that it's only about thinking they share in the white supremacy, racism and hate which are the hallmark of the Administration, but that’s only a minor point.
Those who are staying have made a calculation the association won't be that bad for their bottom lines.
The President has responded that he can find more and better executives, and I'm sure he's correct. There will always be a businessman more than willing to sell out not just the American people, but humanity, in exchange for a 10 mill (that would be 1/10th of a cent) increase in the current fiscal quarter's stock price.
Let's take a look at the possible motivations of just one of those who are hanging on.
Andrew Liveris and Dow Chemical. I don’t know anything about Mr. Liveris, but I know quite a lot about Dow Chemical Corporation, one of whose veterinary pharmaceutical operations was located in my small farming town in Indiana. They did a lot more than make measles vaccine, or antibiotics for farm animals. Despite decades of trying to wash off the stench, and purposeful corporate actions to thin the reputational sewage, the fact remains that Dow Chemical didn't just manufacture Agent Orange, didn't just profit hugely from its sale, but when it became apparent that some of the men (US veterans in Vietnam and American farm workers) exposed to it were dying of lung cancer; glioblastoma and other brain cancers, which will kill John McCain and did kill my next door neighbor, each of whom was a Vietnam era pilot; diabetes ; birth defects in children of veterans exposed to the stuff going back to the Korean War; testicular cancer and more; connived with the government to lie and cover it up to escape accountability.
My opinion isn’t just informed by observations of Dow Chemical in action, spanning decades. Google "Agent orange and (name of cancer)” and you'll find links to take you to the pages on the VA website where, despite decades of lying, they tell all. It's calm, quiet, government-ese (I used to be a senior technical writer for the US government, and recognize it when it see it) but no amount of calm explanation can fog the dreadful truth.
The VA and Dow Chemical spent decades denying and lying about the risks, and hiding evidence from their own research showing these correlations. VA did so shamefully to avoid paying benefits, although they've finally, decades too late, manned up. The VA's big plan was to delay and deny care until the affected veterans died, on their own dime, and it was a huge success. According to a report in Wikipedia, in addition to the Americans, about 4 million Vietnamese were exposed to Agent Orange. Three million of them now have serious health problems.
Dow and the other suppliers were sued in a class action lawsuit, and made a chump change out of court settlement.
We already know from just this history that Dow has zero regard for human life and safety. The settlement, which I suspect was tax deductible, was a pittance of their profits.
This is a report on just ONE member of the President’s Council. According to an ABC News Report, they aren’t leaving out of principle, but because they’re embarrassed. Every one of these men and women is more accomplished in the business world than Donald Trump. No wonder he doesn’t mind seeing them go. He doesn’t show well in comparison to any of them; but then again, none of them show well in comparison to any decent human being.
