Many people contributed to the flash campaign to persuade industry leaders and CEOs to resign from the President’s Manufacturing Council, in protest his public support for white supremacists and neo-Nazis. The Daily Kos was one of the organizations in the vanguard of the effort.
My own little role, yesterday, was to highlight more toxic aspects of what Campbell’s had inadvertently (or foolishly) chosen to expose its brand to.
First, I was startled to discover that the Campbell Soup Company had billed itself as a “Purpose Driven” company ; so, I pointed out to Campbell’s OVER and OVER and OVER, in tweets with the #SoupNazis hashtag that Rick Warren, the originator of the Purpose Driven brand, has publicly praised the dedication of the Hitler Youth who, enthused Warren in a 2005 stadium rally before thousands of his church members, once spelled out with their own bodies, in a Munich stadium before their Fuhrer, the words “HITLER, WE OUR YOURS”. Heartwarming. I’d thoroughly documented this back in 2009, so it was just waiting around to deploy.
Then, this morning when I checked, the Campbell’s twitter page announcing the company’s “Purpose Driven” agenda had been taken down. Disappeared. Suspecting Campbell’s might be paying attention, I decided to play another, even more toxic card :
Donald Trump’s early 2016 meeting with the author of a novel that is, in effect, an updating of the white supremacist race war novel that had helped inspire Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh, who carried out the worst act of domestic terrorism in US history.
In early 2016, Trump met William S. Lind, the mad genius of the far right who suggests his ideas on 4th Generation Warfare may have inspired al-Qaeda’s grand strategy behind the 2001 terrorist attacks on America, whose promotion of the “cultural Marxism” conspiracy theory now animates the racist right and helped inspire Norwegian terrorist Anders Behring Breivik (who copied McVeigh’s truck bomb attack) and whose 2014 novel “Victoria : A Novel of 4th Generation War” envisions Christian, mainly white, militias toppling the federal government, carrying out ethnic cleansing, forcing black families into neo-slavery (forced sharecropping in the country), and launching the next crusade against Islam.
Oh, another little detail — Lind’s heroes also use a tactical nuclear weapon to vaporize the heart of Atlanta to put down a black uprising. I have to wonder if any Campbell’s PR flacks picked up on that.

Campbell’s probably got about 40 tweets on this directly from me, but a number of people with much bigger followings retweeted it too.
Campbell’s (along with 3M) resigned from the Council shortly before Donald Trump blew a fuse and dissolved it.
As I noted, many contributed to this effort, which won significant moral battle towards condemning the white supremacy Donald Trump has now nakedly endorsed. There will be more and bigger battles. Get ready.
