Everybody, and I mean everybody, knows that Trump is being investigated for trying to obstruct a DOJ investigation into his relationship with Russia to interfere with our elections, and many other possible crimes, and that several congressional committees are also investigating the Russia/Trump connection. So Politico reports yesterday that Trump called several senators and not only talked about the investigation, he apparently pressured them to do something about the investigations.
Trump dialed up Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) on Aug. 7, two days before a blunt call with the Senate majority leader that spilled over into a public feud. Tillis is working with Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.) on a bill designed to protect Robert Mueller, the independent counsel investigating the president's Russia connections, from any attempt by Trump to fire him.
The Mueller bill came up during the Tillis-Trump conversation, according to a source briefed on the call — the latest signal of the president's impatience with GOP senators' increasing declarations of independence from his White House. Trump was unhappy with the legislation and didn't want it to pass, one person familiar with the call said.
Wait a minute! Trump is under investigation for trying to obstruct what is now Mueller’s investigation, and is now talking to the Senator who is working on a bill to protect the independence of that investigation. Just bringing up the subject by Trump is a possible crime since he’s the target of the investigation and Tillis knows it! Now I’m not a lawyer so maybe someone can explain why Tillis wasn’t obligated to immediately report a possible crime to Mueller?
In the interest of full disclosure, I don’t trust a single one of these freaken Republicans in congress! From Nunes, who must be on Putin’s payroll, to Grassley who must swear allegiance to his party every morning before breakfast, they have tried to water down the investigations or change the subject to “leakers” in order to lie to the public about the seriousness of the Russian attack.
And then there’s the call to the man-turtle:
During the call, which Mr. Trump initiated on Aug. 9 from his New Jersey golf club, the president accused Mr. McConnell of bungling the health care issue. He was even more animated about what he intimated was the Senate leader’s refusal to protect him from investigations of Russian interference in the 2016 election, according to Republicans briefed on the conversation.
If this is true, if Trump asked McConnell why he wasn’t protecting him from the Russian investigations, It’s a freaken crime and McConnell should have a legal obligation to report it! How many other congressmen connected to the investigation were contacted by Trump and we don’t know about it?
It seems to me that any failure to report a possible obstruction of justice crime by people who have a connection to the investigation, and an interest to downplay the investigation, crosses the line of conspiracy to obstruct justice. At the very least these two Senators have new legal and ethical (a word not found in a GOP dictionary) obligations concerning the Russian/Trump investigation and Mueller needs to question them as to why they were trying to protect a target of a criminal investigation.
Don’t believe any of them when they say they want to get to the bottom of this attack on our democracy, watch what they do. If they didn’t report these contacts to Mueller, it’s just another indication of what the Republican cult truly is. Trump = GOP GOP = Trump!
RESIST!
