Received this e-mail today from U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D. CA) on behalf of the League of Conservation Voters:
Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are determined to destroy critical environmental protections. From our air and water to our public lands and wildlife, nothing is safe. It’s easy to be discouraged.
But we cannot despair. Senators like myself who believe we must protect all Americans’ access to clean water and clean air are standing together in opposition.
My colleagues Senators Tammy Baldwin (WI), Sherrod Brown (OH), and Bob Casey (PA) are being targeted by polluter interests for serving on the front lines of our fight against climate deniers like Donald Trump and Scott Pruitt.
They are all doing what’s right and standing with me in the Senate against Trump’s pro-polluter agenda. They’re also all at serious risk in 2018 in states that Trump won last year.
Rush an urgent contribution of $10 to Tammy Baldwin, Sherrod Brown, and Bob Casey’s campaigns today to fight back against polluter attacks.
Wisconsin will be one of the toughest races this cycle. Businessman Kevin Nicholson, who recently announced his campaign to unseat Senator Tammy Baldwin, already has a Super PAC with millions from a right-wing donor behind him. Tammy is one of the most vulnerable Democrats in the Senate, representing a state where Trump and Tea Party Senator Ron Johnson won in 2016. Tammy isn’t going to be able to counter outside spending like that without grassroots support.
In Pennsylvania, another state that elected both Donald Trump and a Republican senator last year, reports are that Representative Lou Barletta is getting ready to announce his challenge to Senator Bob Casey. Barletta has cosponsored legislation to undermine the EPA and repeal drinking water and clean air protections. We need to help Bob fight back.
And in Ohio, Senator Sherrod Brown is facing a repeat challenge from State Treasurer Josh Mandel. Mandel has called environmentalists “radicals” and said climate science is “inconclusive and riddled with fraud.” He also has a joint fundraising committee with a Koch brothers-backed group and has received over $308,000 from the oil and gas industry in his two Senate campaigns.
These are some of my most vulnerable colleagues. They’ll keep standing up against Trump’s agenda in the Senate, but they can’t do it without grassroots supporters like you.
Can you donate $10 to one or more of their campaigns today?
Thanks for all you do,
Kamala D. Harris
U.S. Senator, California
