Sheriff Joe Arpaio will go down in history first as a bigoted racist pig of a man. Secondly, he’ll go down as a real example of the profound corruption within the Trump/Republican Party during these years. And thirdly, as time moves on, Arpaio will become a cartoon that people will not believe was real. For how could one man be so bereft of morality and rise to such heights of power. When Arpaio was convicted of Federal Contempt of a court order, it was the least of the things he was guilty of. While people were happy that he had received an actual guilty conviction, anyone following Arpaio’s career knew that this was a man who should serve the rest of his time on this planet behind bars writing apology letters to the thousands of families he wronged because of his abuse of power and racism. Andrew Case is an author who wrote a Twitter thread about his experience as a court clerk during the trial that led to the subsequent contempt charges against Arpaio. He explains, in no uncertain terms how Arpaio was so guilty that even though he was afforded a very conservative judge, and even though so many decisions went his way during his trial, he couldn’t stop himself from being convicted of something.
Now, emboldened by his bully-in-chief’s pardon, Arpaio would like everyone to forget that he is a stain on the bottom of the devil’s underwear. Well, we won’t forget the kind of hate you promoted, but someday people will forget all about you and how irrelevant to the human march towards enlightenment you truly are.
