One of the first things John Kelly did as Trump's new White House chief of staff was to call Jeff Sessions last weekend to assure him of his job security. Politico writes:
The officials said Kelly told Sessions to keep up his initiatives at the department and that Trump's disappointment wouldn't lead to his firing, as Trump has occasionally suggested. The call showed that Kelly sees himself as an empowered chief of staff, but Trump could surely change his mind, associates said.
Heck of a job, Sessions! Keep up all those great initiatives targeting minorities.
The worst-case scenario here is that Kelly actually proves effective at steadying Trump's ship so that all the horrible people in his administration can actually function. Sessions is a prime example. Every day he is on the job and unencumbered by his dispute with Trump is another day that people of color, women, the undocumented, and LGBTQ Americans will suffer under his bigoted brand of justice.
