Trump Tower Moscow? How about Trump Shithouse Siberia instead droogie.
You know, being the White House Counsel these days has gotta somehow or other be less prestigious than it used to be. Not only is he busy 24/7 trying to if not stop, at least whitewash all of the ethically toxic shit coming out of this White House, and not only is he inundated by lower level staffers begging him for freebie advice on how to cover their own asses from the coming shitstorm of subpoena’s that their boss has visited on them like a plague of locusts, but now, the boss himself is probably pestering him for advice on how a sitting President files for political Chapter 11 bankruptcy and starts over again on a new Presidential political hotel-casino.
Trump has hit the political trifecta for losers. His political imbecility, his personal obnoxious habits, and his complete lack of traditional power have left him so ineffective that he may as well just phone in his duties from his gilded litterbox in Trump Tower. Not only are congress critters in his own party ignoring him, Ryan and McConnell are already reported as going their own way on legislation now, but even his own cabinet is now actively revolting. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis rallied the troops by basically telling them to ignore Trump and his divisive rhetoric tactics, stay focused on the main job and stay together. His economic advisor repeatedly berated His Lowness for his Charlottesville response, and even his Secretary of State, Rexxon Tillerson cut him loose in an interview on Fox by saying that he only spoke for himself.
But it just got worse. And this time it got worse in a way that is not only damaging to Trump’s ego, but could possibly be a political nightmare for him. Axios is reporting that the State Department is retaliating against Russia for its expulsion of 700+ US Embassy staff;
The U.S. will force Russia to close its consulate in San Francisco and reduce its presence in Washington, D.C. in retaliation for Vladimir Putin's decision to compel the U.S. to cut its embassy staff in Russia by 755, the AP reports.
This is going to be dangerous for Trump on a number of fronts. Frist, it is going to be very difficult, if not impossible for him to resist this, much in the way that it turned out to be impossible for him to veto the Russia sanctions bill. Sane people of both parties are still as pissed as hell at Russia for their interference, especially when you look at The Orange Julius’ pathetic performance, and him trying to stop it might just lead to more overwhelmingly bipartisan legislation.
Second, this action could end up costing Trump bigly, both in terms of his ego, but also right in his company checkbook. Following the confirmed reporting that Michael Cohen had petitioned Vlad the Imp to intercede on Trump’s behalf to put another schlock palace up in Moscow, Lawrence O’Donnell was moved last night to state that “No real estate deal every really dies, it’s always out there waiting to be revived”. Cohen e-mailed Putin because the project negotiations had stalled, but Trump has certainly not given up the dream o seeing his name, in English and Russian letters, shining out over Moscow on top of another architectural monstrosity. Closing a consulate in a major US city and expelling a bunch of Russkies back to tha land of borscht and barbarism is not the way to curry favor for a beacon of greed and capitalism in the home of communism.
But the biggest risk is to his Presidency. As Joan Rivers used to say; “Can we talk”? The Russians have dirt on Trump. OK, maybe Trump didn’t sit down in the bathtub with a fishbowl over his head, Steele may have gilded the lily a bit with that one, but the Russians still have dirt on Trump for two simple reasons. First, that’s standard practice with Russian intelligence for anyone who graces their shores with more than 10 rubles in his pocket. Like with Trump, you never know when a little personal dirt may come in handy, even if only for blackmail. And second, Trump has less decorum and discretion than a turkey vulture. He can’t keep his , big, fat, New York mouth shut for five little minutes, and whether the boasts were true or not really doesn’t matter if the information is personally or professionally embarrassing, and the FSB has it on tape. If Putz-in feels that his style is being cramped by this impudent ant, Trump may well soon learn that the Wikileaks door swings both ways. And if that happens, especially if any substantive information can be confirmed, that may well be enough to convince the GOP dominated congress that it’s time to jettison the ballast to keep the ship afloat.
But while all of that might be amusing and gratifying to consider, the major takeaway is this, at least to my feeble mind. Not only does the GOP led congress no longer either fear nor respect The Inglorious Basterd, his own cabinet now feels free to run their own departments as they please, without fear of his retaliation. This is what happens when a President has no coherent agenda of his own, nor the power to pursue it, everybody feels emboldened to enact their own instead. And if they get away with this, then it is only going to get worse. Everybody was complaining about the dysfunction in congress these last several years, how about a full blown, 100% dysfunctional administration, with no rudder, no direction, and no course setting. What could go wrong?
