The anti-intellectualism of conservative Christians is just offensive to one’s brain. And sadder still is that conservative Christian televangelists in charge of churches and governments actually get away with feeding these cretins this diet of stupid ego-stroking nonsense.
Gregg Abbott’s ridiculous comments today:
"We all know one thing, that is there is no storm as tough as the people of Texas," Gov. Abbott began his statement. "We will rebuild affected areas all across the state of Texas."
"Together today, here at this church, it's important that we remember the greatest power that exists is the power of God. It was God who touched the lives of so many Texans that came to the rescue of other Texans, who empower them to pull people out of the water and literally save them,"
So let me get this straight, because I really don’t speak the language of these morons in the Evangelical movement.
Climate change doesn’t exist. But if it does, it’s not science, it’s God’s plan. The storms we’re seeing around the world are likewise God’s work. Texas is tougher than God’s work. But God is the toughest of all. Sheesh. How do these snake oil salesmen always get away with having it both ways and still getting it ALL wrong?
Look. You’re not tougher than the storm. It kicked our freaking ass. Sure, Texas will rebuild, because unlike Texas conservatives when it came to Sandy, the rest of the country believes in its obligation to literally bail it out.
It won’t be God bailing Texas out. It won’t be because Texans are the toughest or because they’re tougher than God’s plan.
It’ll be because liberal states populated by atheists and non-Evangelicals pay our taxes and aren’t bankrupt, so we have the money to bail Texas out. It’ll be because good people who don’t believe in the Evangelical prosperity gospel (aka Satan’s plan), from around the nation, got together and pulled Texas up by OUR boot straps.
Climate change is kicking our ass. And no, so far you conservatives haven’t been strong enough to face it.
You’ve been really weak. Texas is especially freaking weak on this issue.
Because Texas leads the country in cowardly pulling out of things like the Paris Climate Accord.
So no, Greg Abbot. Your people aren’t stronger than God or God’s plan. And your God isn’t stronger than OUR moral conscience and OUR brains, hard work, money, and willingness to bail you out of your mess. And thank the Spaghetti Monster it isn’t, because I’m really not convinced that Abbot’s God is the same God that decent Christians actually pray to. Abott’s God sounds a lot more like the serpentine demi-God that Jesus is rumored to have fought against, quite frankly.
So… conservative Evangelical Texans, get the chip off your shoulder, and take a day to instead of thanking Satan for your predicament and stroking your own egos… maybe take a day to thank the people who are actually going to do the heavy lifting of dragging your Climate Change denying moronic asses out of the swamp you built for yourself with radically unregulated development.
Take a day to thank the specialized disaster relief teams from liberal Southern California that after every storm fly around the country to do the work that other states refuse to invest in.
Sometimes your Texas stupid really freaking burns.
And your lack of gratitude towards the people bailing you out is really freaking weak.
Really really weak.
