Margana Wood was representing Texas in the Miss America pageant and last night she fielded a question about the violence attack in Charlottesville when neo-Nazis marched into the college town and James Field Jr. slammed his car into a crowd of counter protesters. One of the judges recounted the events, reading a portion of Donald Trump’s statement saying there were ‘very fine people’ on both sides. The judge then asked Margana Wood, ‘Where there?’ Very fine people on both sides?
In only 16 seconds, she offered an answer that was a stronger rejection than top Republican leaders Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell, flatly rejecting the notion there were ‘very fine people’ on both sides and squarely shaming Donald Trump:
‘I think that the white supremacist issue, it was very obvious that it was a terrorist attack. And I think that President Donald Trump should have made a statement earlier addressing the fact and in making sure that all Americans feel safe in this country. That is the number one issue right now.’
