The Washington Post got their hands on an invoice for a two-night, single-room occupancy stay at unpopular President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago “Winter White House” resort. The invoice was given to an advocacy group who had made a Freedom of Information Act request to the Coast Guard.
If you look closely that says $546.00 per night, bringing the total to $1,092.00. It’s also at “Rack Rate,” which the Post explains is the same as paying for something off-the-rack so to speak.
The amount was based on a per-night price of $546, which, according to the bill, was Mar-a-Lago’s “rack rate,” the hotel industry term for a standard, non-discounted price. [...]
It is not clear whether the invoice stemmed from a one-time occurrence or represented one of many Mar-a-Lago rooms that have been booked at government expense for presidential aides or other officials since Trump took office and began traveling there on a regular basis. Other agencies that likely have had regular presence at the club, such as the Secret Service, have declined to provide The Post information about potential payments to Mar-a-Lago and have referred requests to the General Services Administration. The GSA told The Post in March that it had no records of such payments.
Here’s a quick search for hotels in the area, from four-star luxury to more modest accommodations. The Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach goes for $469 a night. But do they give you a complimentary USA Today? What is known is that the American taxpayer isn’t getting any deals from Trump or his businesses. In unrelated news, Trump still has an emoluments lawsuit coming up in October.
