Jim DeFede, a reporter over at CBS4 in Miami, Florida, is breaking a story that claims Florida Governor and Skeletor impersonator Rick Scott was specially contacted by the nursing home where eight people died under suspect circumstances, during Hurricane Irma.
Eatherly, 78, was one of eight elderly people who were found dead Wednesday after Hurricane Irma left the nursing home without air conditioning. Hollywood police have opened a criminal investigation into what Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Florida, called "an emerging scandal of gargantuan proportions."
The initial reports are that without air conditioning, many of these patients’ conditions worsened beyond repair. An investigation has been launched into what happened. But this new information may throw a wrench into the Republican governor’s hopes to pass the buck on leadership responsibilities.
Well, calling the governor’s office isn’t a guarantee that you’ll get a more direct line to the Governor of a State, right?
According to CBS4, the nursing home called officials three times asking for help. The governor’s office had this to say about these new revelations.
The tragic and senseless loss at Hollywood Hills Rehabilitation Center is the subject of a criminal homicide investigation by law enforcement. Let’s be clear — this facility is located across the street from one of Florida’s largest hospitals, which never lost power and had fully operating facilities. It is 100 percent the responsibility of health care professionals to preserve life by acting in the best interest of the health and well-being of their patients.
So, both sides have volleyed the blame ball into each other’s courts. I am sure more will come out about this tragedy over the next few hours and days and weeks.
