A Missouri bar owner has caused outrage among some in the Missouri Ozark region after he ordered Marshawn Lynch and Colin Kaepernick jerseys for the sole purpose of taping them on the ground as doormats outside his “patriotic-themed” bar. The message he was sending seems clear: Lynch Kaerpernick. Apparently that message was A-okay with his regular customers, until customer Taylor Sloan took a photo of the makeshift doormat and posted it on the Snafu Bar Facebook page, calling out owner Jason Burle for the disgusting racist display:
“That’s not the Missouri I know,” Sloan said. “It just kind of upset me really bad. Put a bad taste in my mouth.”
Sloan posted on the bar’s Facebook page. He and Burle had a heated exchange online.
Sloan wrote on the page, "You are also expressing hate, violence and continuing American racism under the faux guise of patriotism."
Burle responded, "It's funny to me that someone would look that far deeply into it just to find a racist link."
Sloan also said he was embarrassed and that people like Burle were the reason the NAACP issued a travel warning for Missouri. Gee golly, whiz, Burle says he has no idea why people would think he was a racist for his “Lynch Kaepernick” display. No idea whatsoever! In video from KOMU-TV in Missouri, Snafu regulars can be seen gleefully wiping their cowboy boots and Crocs on the jerseys.
After news crews started coming around, Burle pulled the jerseys up and switched them to read “Kaepernick Lynch.”
Burle sent a picture to KOMU Tuesday afternoon, showing that he switched the placement of the jerseys. He said his makeshift doormat is about nothing but respect for the American flag. While he recognizes NFL players’ right to kneel during the anthem, he disagrees with it.
As you can see below, Burle has such a deep respect for the flag, he turned it into a t-shirt promoting his bar and painted the top of his bar’s countertop with the stars and stripes. Because nothing says respect for the flag like setting your beer on it.
