How much does this trip cost?
I have very little sympathy for the person who decides to run for Presidency and wins it. He or she gets some amazing perks. He/She should be willing to make some sacrifices. We don’t ask our President to be responsible enough.
Take Travel on Vacation.
Presidents & their families pay a first class ticket when using VC-25 (modified Boeing 747 with the call sign Air Force One when POTUS is on board). Media accompanying them pay for their tickets but the President doesn’t pick the entire tab.
It is a bipartisan issue. Bushes, Reagan, Clinton, Obama, Trump — all ask their cabinet members to take commercial while they get to roam around in the luxury of VC-25.
It is high time that Presidents are asked to reimburse for ALL expenses of using VC-25 or any other aircraft that isn’t for business.
- Move the cost of 89th Airlift Wing from DoD to Executive Office of the President. That way, the public will know the real cost of POTUS’ travel.
- Let the President make a request to Congress for travel budget and utilize on approval
- Want to give a speech on tax policy that also doubles as a campaign rally — the campaign should pick up the tabs. A million dollars a day will suddenly see the President’s hunger to roam around the nation without any meaningful work diminish
- Family or President wants to take vacation. Great! Sure. Presidency comes with a reimbursement free vacation house. Remember, Camp David. Anywhere else, pay up! Want to go to Mar-a-Lago and have a helicopter on your lawns to make your manhood feel better. Sure. Why not? The bill will run to $1M a day. That will be $2.5M over a weekend since President Trump thinks weekend starts mid-day Friday.
- Family wants to vacation in Aspen or in Spain or in Timbaktoo. Sure. That might be $500K a day for the aircraft.
What? You think that it is too much. You should be glad that i am not asking them to reimburse Secret Service cost.
President Trump or for that matter any President — Dem or Republican have enough supporters who can contribute funds to their campaign to pick up these tabs (at least, as long as we have Citizens United!)
A little belt tightening at the very top will soon cascade and you will be surprised as to how much money federal government can save when the top honchos have to pay up ...
