Just posted this rant on my Facebook. Thought I’d share it here:
Republicans must think all Americans are stupid. I am not moved by $1000 bonuses from corporate America or any short-term savings I’ll get from this tax reform. Yes it will be beneficial to me personally in the immediate term, but at what cost to my fellow Americans or the next generation?
Republicans have raided the public treasury and added $1.5 TRILLION to the national debt to pay for these tax cuts. This after running around screaming about the deficit when Obama was president. This just shows what bare-faced hypocrites they are. Republicans will then try to address this additional debt they have created by cutting into programs designed to help the most vulnerable in America’s population.
You can expect drastic cuts to Social Security and Medicare for the elderly, Medicaid and nutrition programs for the poorest among us, education and health insurance programs for America’s youths - right now millions of children across America are at risk of losing insurance coverage because Congressional Republicans have refused to renew the popular Children’s Health Insurance Program for no logical reason. This on top of the fact that almost 30 million Americans remain without access to affordable health insurance (Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to make that figure even worse) and America’s infrastructure continues to crumble in many places due to years of neglect.
The best interest of the average American was never at the forethought of Republicans when they crafted this tax bill. This bill is basically a bribe to big corporations and the super rich who fund their campaigns. Republicans begrudgingly added the tax cuts for individuals so people wouldn’t complain too much about the blatant giveaways to corporate America. Case in point: they’ve set the individual tax cuts to expire in just a few years while making the corporate tax cuts permanent.
If Republicans could have given this tax cut to just the super-rich and get away with it, they would have (in many ways this is exactly what they have done in this bill). They despise middle and working class Americans.
This is why I will collect my ill-gotten savings from this tax ‘reform’ and vote for Democrats up and down the ballot in November. Republicans might think everyone in America is stupid, but I wasn’t born yesterday.
Thanks for your attention to this matter. I needed to get that out of my system.
