This is huge news -- Rep. Darrell Issa, the right-wing extremist who stood on a building yelling at protesters when he voted for Trumpcare, and who nearly lost in 2016, just announced he won't run for re-election in 2018.

This comes just two days after another California Republican, Rep. Ed Royce, announced he also would not run for re-election.

These Republicans are quitting because they knew they would lose the November election. Hillary Clinton won their districts and they did not want to face voters who are angry at Trump's extremism and corporate greed.

DFA has endorsed two progressive champions in each of these crucial seats -- Sam Jammal in California's 39th District (Ed Royce's current seat) and Mike Levin in California's 49th District (Darrell Issa's current seat). They now have a huge chance of winning these seats and helping flip the House. Can you help build their campaign right now?

If Democrats are going to win the House this fall, they need to win big in California. There are as many as seven or more winnable Congressional seats up for grabs -- and in two of them, the Republican incumbent just quit. The Cook Political Report just changed both CA-39 and CA-49 from "Toss Up" to "Lean Democratic" because of these Republican retirements.

These districts are coastal, so they're furious at Trump's decision to allow offshore oil drilling in California. These districts are also getting hit hard by Trump's greedy tax plan.

And these crucial swing districts have large numbers of young people, immigrants, and people of color who are already organizing to take down these Republicans, stop their agenda of greed and white supremacy, and replace them with real progressives.

Sam Jammal and Mike Levin are already running the smart, inclusive populist campaigns necessary to defeat the right-wing California Republicans who have been enabling Trump's agenda. They are contacting and inspiring tens of thousands of new voters who want to join us in fighting back.
