Rudy Giuliani is once again setting himself up as a leading voice on Trump administration international diplomacy—despite not being part of the Trump administration—and he’s doing it in the same eyebrow-raising way he’s done his actual job of being one of Donald Trump’s personal lawyers. According to Giuliani, Trump’s decision to cancel the June 12 summit with North Korea was a masterfully effective power play:
After Mr. Trump canceled the meeting, Mr. Giuliani said: “Well, Kim Jong Un got back on his hands and knees and begged for it, which is exactly the position you want to put him in.”
It’s not clear exactly what begging Giuliani was referring to, but whether or not Kim did in fact do anything that could be characterized as begging—whether on his hands and knees or upright and via diplomats—no doubt having a top Trump confidante making this claim to the world will just thrill Kim. Trump and Kim haven’t been in enough of a dick-swinging contest so far, so they really needed to add that extra dollop of humiliation and taunting.
