It's happening. The AP writes:
The Justice Department has made clear its proposed ban on transgender military recruits is on hold, meaning their enlistment can start Monday.
But the future for transgender people in the armed forces remains murky. The Justice Department isn’t dropping its court fight to institute the ban on transgender enlistment but said Friday it would wait for a Pentagon study on the issue in coming weeks before deciding what to do next.
Even with the uncertainty, this is a very promising development helped by the fact that several federal judges rejected Donald Trump's ill-considered ban while the military has been preparing to start recruiting transgender service members for a solid year and a half.
All of this will make it harder for the Trump administration to argue in court that there's any justifiable reason for banning transgender Americans from military service. A study by the RAND Corp. last year concluded that allowing transgender service wouldn't undermine military readiness.
