It has been widely reported that the advocacy group Common Cause is calling for an investigation into an alleged $130,000 payment of hush money from President Trump, through his lawer, to ex-porn star Stormy Daniels.
USA Today reported that such charges are difficult to prove and unlikely to be persued by the Justice Department or the Federal Election Commission.
The possible violation of campaign laws is far less important then if Ms. Daniels, or someone she confided with, will confirm that the Presidents sexual proclivities lend credence to the more salacious elements of the Steele dossier.
Even if such a revelation is unlikely and would not be dispositive if made, it would significantly raise concerns that the Russians have so-called "kompromat" on the President making him vulnerable to blackmail or an influence campaign.
Because of the critical national security concerns at stake, the Justice Department should interview Ms. Daniels to ensure that the President is not compromised.
