Last night, the scandal factory that was once called the White House generated yet another story of (probably) illegal doings on the part of one “greatest” person ever: Donald Trump. The New York Times reported that early this past summer, as special counsel Bob Mueller’s investigation into Russian ties with Donald Trump’s campaign continued to heat up and not go away, Trump wanted to have Mueller fired.
The news broke with multiple sources, and was not hard to believe as there had been previous rumors about such an event. In fact, considering that the only things Donald Trump has ever been known to be “proactive” about is allegedly sexually assaulting women and firing people on television (based on what his producers told him to do), this story almost didn’t feel like breaking news at all. We all assumed it had happened. But Sean Hannity and Fox News were there to defend mein Fuhrer Trump using the right wing’s No. 1 tool these days: conspiracy theory.
Hannity: Now tonight, for example, they're trying to change the story. At this hour, the New York Times is trying to distract you. They have a story that Trump wanted Mueller fired sometime last June. And our sources, and I've checked in with many of them, they're not confirming that tonight. And the president's attorney dismissed the story, and says, “Nope, no comment. We're not going there.” And how many times have the New York Times and others gotten it right?
And then, while on air, even Fox News’ Hannity-handlers couldn’t allow their gravy train to continue to embarrass himself and informed him that, yes, Donald Trump is exactly as terrible as advertised. Joe Scarborough decided to have on a panel of people to watch what is arguably one of the most surreal and hilarious backtracks in the history of television. Read and watch below.
Campaign Action
Hannity: So, we have sources tonight just confirming to Ed Henry that yeah, maybe Donald Trump wanted to fire the special counsel for a conflict. Does he not have the right to raise those questions?
You know, we’ll deal with this tomorrow night. [without pause] We have a shocking video we want to share with you tonight. This video comes to us from Arizona—
The video is helicopter footage of a high-speed chase that ends in a crash. Seriously. Scarborough himself could not keep it together and laughed so hard he needed to remove his glasses in order to wipe away tears.
Please enjoy Sean Hannity’s humiliation.
