Who knew we’d be starting off 2018 with a bare-knuckled fight between Donald Trump and Steve Bannon? To bring you up to speed, it all started with news that Michael Wolff has a book about the first year of the Trump administration coming out and it is heavy on quotes from White House insiders like Steve Bannon. Details began to leak, including this excerpt in which Bannon called Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner’s meeting with the Russians “treasonous.”
“Even if you thought that this was not treasonous, or unpatriotic, or bad ..., and I happen to think it’s all of that, you should have called the FBI immediately,” Bannon said.
That did not sit well with the famously thin-skinned father of Donald Trump, Jr. The impulsive Trump could not help himself and immediately released a statement saying, among other things, “Steve Bannon has nothing to do with me or my Presidency. When he was fired, he not only lost his job, he lost his mind.” (You can read the full unhinged statement below.)
As if all that weren’t enough, Mitch McConnell just couldn’t help himself from piling on Steve Bannon, who in December 2016, declared war on Mitch McConnell. Team Mitch released a short, but sweet revenge GIF that is McConnell apparently laughing at old Bannon.
McConnell’s and his team were so happy about Trump shredding Bannon they sent out their own press release and unveiled the rare winking emoji from the Senate leader, doing everything they can to alert their email readers and donors of Bannon’s demise.
What a terrible group of people, all of them. There isn’t a single one of them that should be anywhere near the Oval Office or the governance of this country and that includes Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. These people are endangering our democracy, one petty fight at a time.
If you are so inclined, here’s here is the rest of Trump’s statement on Steve Bannon.
[Edited to clarify the book features Steve Bannon, was not by Steve Bannon]
