This is not an actual thought out diary, just spreading the word from the Congressional Budget Office
soooo much winning from the Trump/GOP these days

Just curious, but back in 2013 while in the minority, republican Mitch McConnell had this to say:
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) declared Tuesday that Republicans intend to use the debt limit as “leverage” to extract concessions from Democrats, setting up a direct confrontation with President Barack Obama, who has vowed that raising the debt limit is non-negotiable.
“I would be stunned if we raised the debt ceiling and didn’t do something about the debt. I think that’s the view of virtually every Republican,”
McConnell told reporters at his weekly Capitol briefing.
“It seems like the only time the president’s ever willing to address the question of deficits and debt is when we have some opportunity and some leverage to bring him to the table. And the request to raise the debt ceiling is one of those opportunities.”
— there really isn’t much I’m qualified to comment on or advise of Dems, past what McConnell himself admitted back then.
