I am shocked, shocked I tell you that this hasn’t been tried in North Carolina.
Schumacher's resolution (LR269CA) proposes a constitutional amendment that would allow the Legislature to delegate complete or partial sovereignty over a designated, limited and sparsely-settled area of the state for not to exceed 99 years.
Because apparently not one company would ever relocate to anywhere they have to pay any taxes or follow any regulations.
So the new wild west of capitalism is going to be put on the backs of rural Nebraska. Other than lets put pollution belching factories, or fill up the fields with McMansions on teeny lots will do for the breadbasket of America, what could go wrong?
This presents an opportunity, he said, to essentially "have your own state."
And, Schumacher said, "nobody else has done it."
Not enough facepalms and headdesks to cover my emotions about this.
