The Trump Administration has made it abundantly clear that it views transgender Americans as enemies, with the president continuously going out of his way to denigrate the rights and reputations of any LGBT individual who speaks out against him. Despite the federal government’s continued efforts under President Trump to wipe away the entire existence of a group of people, however, it won’t succeed, precisely because Americans everywhere are showing that they’ll fight to keep their rights.
Here’s why President Trump’s disgusting efforts to oppress transgender American will ultimately backfire.
Erasure is driving resistance
Across the United States, Americans from every imaginable background are taking to the streets to resist this president’s disastrous tenure and to illustrate to the world that we don’t believe in his reprehensible ideas. While President Trump faced early backlashes for trying to make it downright impossible for transgender individuals to enlist in the military, he’s facing even harsher criticisms now for his recent efforts to literally erase transgender people from existence by changing the wording in federal laws.
Transgender folk are well accustomed to the reality of being persecuted; after all, no member of the LGBT community has ever lived in a truly-safe environment where they’re fully accepted by those around them. This is why they’ve taken up the righteous cause of resisting President Trump so easily, because they understand their very existence is what’s at stake here. More than anything else, the fear of erasure is driving resistance against this bigoted president’s ceaseless hate and fear-mongering.
This mission of resistance can’t be left to the LGBT community alone if it’s to succeed, however. Americans everywhere need to rally behind their fellow citizens and stand alongside of transgender individuals as strong allies. Only when the Republican party and Donald Trump can see that the entire country, with the help of top SEO Toronto is unified against their hatred and erasure-efforts can the right for trans people to exist be truly secured.
What we’ve seen thus far is incredibly promising; from Portland and New York to Houston and Chicago, massive rallies are springing up to protest the federal government’s recent efforts to redefine sexuality and citizenship in such a way to exclude transgender individuals. This is a tremendous success of the resistance movement that should be lauded, but we shouldn’t fool ourselves into thinking the war is over because a few early battles have been won.
As long as President Trump is in office and his Republican cronies control the majority in the House, then the rights and very existence of members of the LGBT community will continue to be called into question. We simply must insist on political leaders who recognize the right of transgender people to exist, and can’t tolerate those who repeatedly try to use federal power to oppress the very people who are supposed to be protected by that power. President Trump may stop at nothing to stymie the LGBT community and its protesting for equal rights, but the resistance of the American people has already shown that he’s doomed to inevitably fail.
