Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) hit the circuit of talking head shows this weekend to talk about her vote that put perjuring sexual assaulter Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, during which she fully embraced her new status of right-wing darling, complete with forwarding whacko conspiracy theories, attacking her constituents, and calling Christine Blasey Ford a liar.
She did all that in a few short interviews. On CNN she told Dana Bash that there was a "lack of corroboration" to Dr. Ford's charges, because "I really don't think that's possible" that people wouldn't remember a party from 36 years ago if nothing remarkable happened at it. Then she called Dr. Ford a liar and employed the right-wing conspiracy theory cooked up in Kavanaugh's defense: some other guy did it. "I do not believe that Brett Kavanaugh was her assailant," she said. "I do believe she was assaulted. I don't know by whom. And I'm not certain when."
"I believe that she believes what she testified to," Collins said, but the crazy woman was just so mixed up she just couldn't have known what really happened to her. And then this. She had the fucking gall to say this on Face the Nation: "The one silver lining that I hope will come from this is that more women will press charges now when they are assaulted," Collins said.
She just told CNN that she did not believe this victim of sexual assault, but now women will be believed when they report it. Oh, but that's not all. "And that's why the Me Too movement has been important," she said. "That's why it's been important that so many of these women for the first time ever have come forward," she said. Which is exactly what Dr. Ford did. "And it is important that we treat people fairly. And that's what we need to do." THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT SHE AND 49 OTHER SENATORS REFUSED TO DO.
She wasn't finished yet, though, not by a long shot. She, the person who relies on big money donors and PACs for 94 percent of her campaign funds—less than 3 percent from small donors—again attacked the Maine grassroots activists and small donor crowd funding against her. On 60 Minutes, she called it "bribery" and an attempt to "buy votes and buy positions."
She also said that she "did not try to weigh a political calculus to this decision," which is the least believable thing to come out of her mouth in this whole debacle. To cap it all off, she said she decided that putting a hyper-partisan perjurer and would-be rapist on the Supreme Court because "I just had to do what I think is right."
Make them pay: Donate $1 right now to each of the Democratic candidates and nominee funds targeting vulnerable Senate Republicans—including Susan Collins—running in 2018 and 2020 who just put Brett Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court.
