In reading a recent diary,
I decided to take a look see at the whole Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House battle.
It only took one minute to find a story on Huffington Post
“Speaker Of The House Race Continues As Nancy Pelosi Remains Confident”
to find some troubling quotes.
first:
Trump tweeted
a twitter link for Rep. Tom Reed, a New York Republican who has said he could be open to backing Pelosi if she committed to changes that would shift some power from the House leadership.
To which all Democrats and the Independents who just joined us to take back the House and all of the rights and duties of that chamber a definitive ‘Hell to the No’ to reduction in those powers
(such as limiting impeachment)
and more interestingly...
From Trump
Trump, trying to insert himself into the race, tweeted on Saturday that he could get Pelosi “as many votes as she wants” to become speaker. “She deserves this victory, she has earned it - but there are those in her party who are trying to take it away. She will win!”
Which is weird.
Although historically, Nancy Pelosi has been adverse to using the House’s power of Impeachment in the past.
If she were not in the House--and not Speaker of the House--Nancy Pelosi says she "would probably advocate" impeaching President Bush.
But given her current role as party leader, at a breakfast with progressive journalists today (named after our great friend Maria Leavey)
Pelosi sketched her case against impeachment.
"The question of impeachment is something that would divide the country," Pelosi said this morning during a wide-ranging discussion in the ornate Speaker's office.
That was after Democrats had waited an eternity (6 years) to get a check and balance against Bush and Cheney and the Republicans in 2006. And at the time it seemed pragmatic.
Well you might say ‘that was then, this is now’
Until you read this from CNN in 2017
On CNN's 'State of the Union' on Sunday, Rep. Nancy Pelosi said that impeaching President Trump "is not someplace that I think we should go." She added that many on the left were upset at her for not impeaching President Bush in the wake of the Iraq War. "What could be worse than that?" she asked.
While Donald Trump has not started any new wars, he has not ended any either, and openly said he did not care about the murder of Wapo Journalist Khashoggi by the Saudis because they
buy $110 billion in arms from the United States.
Arms that are objectively being used to bomb Yemen,
and may cause the famine deaths of 13 million people.
Maybe Donald Trump is tweeting this stuff because he just wants to be the center of attention as usual… or maybe he is taking cues from Pelosi’s own statements that he will be protected from Impeachment if she is the Speaker.
So why do you think Donald Trump wants Nancy Pelosi back as the House Speaker?
