An earthquake being reported as high in magnitude as 7.0 or 7.2 has hit near Anchorage, Alaska. Local television stations are down, dramatic images are starting to emerge of cracked roads and more, and residents are being warned to shut off gas and water.
A tsunami warning is in effect for some areas:
The center said Friday that the warning was in effect for parts of the state's Cook Inlet and the southern Kenai peninsula.
The warning means tsunami waves are expected.
