Election officials in North Carolina just voted against certifying the results in the NC-09 race and to hold an evidentiary hearing into possible Republican fraud.
It was a close race — the Republican won by a margin of just 905 votes. We were in this race early, supporting veteran Dan McCready. But depending on what a hearing finds, it is possible that officials may call a new election. That would be another pickup opportunity for Democrats.
We don't know what will happen in this hearing, but we're going to do everything we can to make sure it is fair and transparent. Voters deserve to know what happened.
Can you split a $3 donation between Dan McCready and our work making sure that this is a fair and open process? We cannot allow potential Republican fraud to undermine our elections.
We fought to defend and promote democracy, and now we're going to keep fighting for it.
At least six voters have signed affidavits that point toward irregular activity by Republicans in this race. The board made the right call in delaying certification and calling for an evidentiary hearing.
Now, we're going to make sure the voters get answers here because our democracy depends on it.
